We are proud to announce our 2015 Grandma Bad Ass of the Year, Betty Scrivener. Betty’s story is one of courage and compassion, heartbreak and adversity. She has faced more challenges in her lifetime than anyone should have to endure. She raised 7 children. She’s been widowed twice. She lost her first husband at the age of 33 and was left at that time with four young children and a fifth baby on the way. While coping with incredible heartbreak and grief, her one priority was to keep her family together, and she did. Her husband of the last 37 years, Lee, has Myasthenia Gravis and is disabled. She lost her youngest son in a tragic car accident when he was just 25 years old. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and went through surgery and radiation. She is a 10+ year survivor. As if all of this wasn’t enough for her to deal with, a few years ago she was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. This is a serious lung disorder that results in shortness of breath and causes her to tire easily. As a result, she is on oxygen 24 hours a day. Through all of this she still remains one of the most kind and generous women you will ever meet. If you stop by to visit she’ll want to fix you something to eat or offer you one of her famous “cowboy cookies” . She’s always been the kind of person who would go without if someone needed something. She still has a wicked sense of humor and is known for her slightly off-color “little ditty’s” that cause her grandchildren and great grandchildren to fall off their chairs in fits of laughter. Whether she is known as Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma or Aunt Betty, everyone that knows her can’t help but love her. For all that she has endured and the battles she continues to fight with grace, courage and humor, we are proud to call her “Grandma Bad Ass"
